Green-er in 2010
The last decade saw a significant rise in the awareness of environmental issues and most companies realized the need to show participation in programs designed to lessen the ecological impact. Recycled products became the customary way to do business and more and more printed materials now sport the recycle logo in one form or another. This is the way a company lets the world know it is acting with a responsible footprint and is an important component of corporate brands. In 2010, we are ready to take these issues of corporate social responsibility to the next level and the FSC will lead the way.
The Forest Stewardship Council or FSC was created as an independent, non-governmental, not-for-profit organization to promote the responsible management of the world’s forests. It was a necessary response to concerns over global deforestation and is widely regarded as one of the most important initiatives of the last decade. FSC is represented in more than 50 countries around
the world.
FSC is a certification system that provides internationally recognized standard-setting trademark assurance and accreditation services to companies, organizations and communities. The FSC label is an effective way to get public and consumer recognition of a company’s responsible practices. It gives credibility with customers and business partners as well as financial institutions and watchdog organizations. Carrying the FSC-certification logo on print products tells the world that you support the highest social and environmental standards in the market where you use paper. The purchase of FSC-certified paper and print products contribute to conservation, responsible management, and community level benefits for people near the forests that provide the paper. The FSC is the only forest certification system that is supported by all major environmental groups. A number of certification assessments, such as the US, Australian and American Green Building Council only accept FSC as proof of sustainability.
In the next decade you will see this logo appear on more products as companies and consumers become aware of FSC’s direct and permanent positive impact on the world’s forests and the people living from, in and around the forest.
‘til next time, take care.
